Tropical Marine Ecosystems Pre-Semester Program

Costs
- Flights to Suva (For those who are flying to Nadi — you must take the bus to Suva)
- 1 month travel insurance coverage (your OSHC will not cover you outside of Australia)
- Program Fee – TBC, approx $3000
- BIOL 245 enrolment fee - TBC, approx $2000

To Apply
Admission requirements:
- Students should have studied plant and animal biology at an introductory level
- Intermediate level of swimming is required
- Contact your Macquarie Abroad Adviser
- Upon approval into the unit, you will be pre-enrolled into BIOL245
- Once pre-enrolled into the unit, you will be required to provide a deposit of AUD$1000. This non-refundable deposit can be paid online. To confirm your position on the program this deposit must be paid in early November (due date TBA). This deposit is non-refundable and proof of payment must be provided to your Macquarie Abroad Adviser.
What To Bring
- Toiletries, towel, sunscreen, insect repellent, sea sickness medication if you are prone
- Clothing appropriate for field work, including sturdy footwear, hat, raingear, extra t-shirts
- Swimming costume, sand shoes a/o Tevas/Reef walkers (you may be required to wade in waist-deep water)
- Wet suit and/or snorkeling equipment if you have it. Supervised snorkeling will be allowed for strong swimmers.
- Flashlight (if you want to go spotlighting)
- Binoculars (if you have them)
- Day pack to take things out in the field
- Water Bottle
- Notebooks, pens, calculator, dissecting kit (forceps, paintbrush, and needles), hand lens (x10), notes, etc.
Banking
ATMs are common in Suva. However, do not carry more money than you can afford to lose. Remember money is not covered by travel insurance.
