Fees, Refunds, Appeals and Transfers
Fees
As a Transnational student you need to refer to the fees policy of the institution where your course is conducted. All Students must pay their fees punctually as outlined in the offer letter and in the Schedule of Payment issued at the time of the student's enrolment into the program of study.Do not disregard fee notices. Failure to pay your fees will eventually lead to cancellation of your enrolment or delay of graduation until all fees are paid in full. Your fees will remain fixed at the commencing rate while you remain continuously enrolled in the same course for the standard length of that course. That means if you continue in the course in which you first enrolled without any breaks, then your fees will remain at the same rate for the whole period of that course. In case of changing to a new course or location, you will have to pay the rate that applies to the new course or location when you first enrol in it. If you have a break of a semester or two, for any reason, and then return to study, you will normally be required to pay the new rate for your course. When studying more subjects than needed to graduate you will be charged for the total credit points in which you are enrolled. A second attempt at a subject, if you failed, is charged as an additional subject, at the same rate as you normally pay. If you fail several subjects and therefore need more than two semesters longer than the standard duration to complete your course, you may be required to pay at a higher rate for any subsequent semesters.
Refunds
Refunds are not automatic. If you change your mind about studying, drop out, transfer, get sick or go home and this means that you have discontinued all or part of your study, then you must apply for a refund. Requests for withdrawal and refund must be made in writing and addressed to the Macquarie partner. Whether you get a refund or not depends on the time you notify us of your withdrawal and the circumstances under which you withdraw. If you have withdrawn under exceptional circumstances, you must be able to demonstrate that in order to get the maximum refund allowable under the guidelines. The amount of refund will be in accordance with the partner’s refund policy. If you have paid your fees and you are refused a student visa, a full refund will be issued provided that you have supporting evidence regarding your visa refusal. All application, registration, membership entrance fees and pro-rated membership subscription fees paid are usually non-refundable.
Appeal process
Before results are released, examiners will check through very carefully to verify that marks have been correctly recorded and administrative processes correctly followed. Similarly several people carefully make academic judgements with independent checks. Thus if a student seeks to challenge academic judgements, there must be some concrete reason to believe that a misjudgement has been made. A formal system enabling students to appeal against grades for units of study has been established. All appeals are dealt with according to the Macquarie rules as written in the handbook.
All appeals must be in writing, with the reasons for the appeal clearly defined. Details of student name, student ID, the unit name, date of exam and lecturer in charge of that unit must be included in the appeal. The appeal should be sent to transnational@io.mq.edu.au within one week of receiving official notification of exam results. If difficulties or differences occur the student has the right to lodge a written request to the Academic Program Director or Head of Division for a review of the grade awarded.
No supplementary exam will be given to students under this circumstance. More details on appeals against grades can be found online in the Undergraduate Handbook. The appeals procedure is subject to strict deadlines that will not be varied. Appeals not received within the time scale (please refer to Macquarie University website) will not be considered. There may be non-refundable administrative fees per unit request. For more information on this, please refer to the policies of the partner institution where your course is conducted.
Transferring to Sydney
Undergraduate Students must usually complete at least 12 credit points (postgraduate 8 credit points) in addition to any advanced standing awarded, and obtain a GPA of 2.5 prior to applying and being accepted for a transfer to Sydney. Part of this process would also involve ensuring that progression rules are met and that appropriate units are being offered onshore. The duration of the transfer must be for a minimum of one semester and during this time students must be enrolled in a minimum of 9 cp as per visa regulations. The application to Transfer to Sydney Form must be completed and fax/emailed through to the partner institution for academic approval. Then the partner institution will consult the particular Macquarie’s Transnational Education department in regard to the student’s study plan. Once the study plan is approved, the partner institution will inform the student.
