Macquarie University offers students the choice of taking intensive pre-degree English courses in order to obtain the necessary language and study skills to succeed in a University environment. Macquarie University’s Centre for Macquarie English, located on campus, offers specially designed English courses for students who wish to enter the University, or who wish to improve their overall communication skills.
CME is the centre for English language at Macquarie University and is a leading research and development centre in the field of TESOL. In addition, the Centre is an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) centre and administers IELTS tests each month.
CME is a leading Applied Linguistics centre, staffed with highly qualified and experienced teachers. It is unique in its close collaboration with academics.
Teachers and Administrative staff at CME are trained in intercultural awareness and communication and work hard to ensure that students are able to develop friendships with each other across many cultures.
Studying English at CME does not simply improve your English language knowledge: it also helps prepare you with the intercultural communications, understanding and skills you will require for success in a competitive international environment.
CME offers direct entry programs that enable students to gain the required level of English for direct entry to Macquarie University, and is an alternative to the IELTS test.
It develops skills needed for undergraduate and postgraduate study in a range of disciplines in the humanities and sciences.
Students progressing from CME Direct Entry programs have a success rate in their university programs of well over 90%.
As well as English classes students can enjoy the dance parties, soccer matches and wide range of programs organised by CME and/or Macquarie University. Participating in such on-campus activities is a great way to meet other international students, improve your English, learn about Australian culture and enjoy life, as well as succeed in your studies.
