Statistics - Distance Programs

The Department of Statistics at Macquarie University is the largest statistics department at an Australian university.

The department currently offer six postgraduate courses via distance mode:

Applied Statistics
- Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Statistics
- Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Statistics
- Master of Applied Statistics

The emphasis of the program is on the application of contemporary statistical methods and the use of the latest computational techniques. Rapid developments in computer technology have had a major impact on the nature and extent of statistical work in both the public and private sectors. Hence developments of relevant computing skills form an integral part of the courses.

Biostatistics
- Postgraduate Certificate in Biostatistics
- Postgraduate Diploma in Biostatistics
- Master of Biostatistics

The program has been designed to provide advanced biostatistical training for a diverse range of students. It is primarily aimed at those wishing to become highly trained professional biostatisticians and is accredited by the Statistical Society of Australia.

Resources and Support for Distance Students

There is a high level of support for distance students. Academic staff are available by email, fax, and telephone. The Department’s Student Services staff are devoted to dealing with administrative and practical need of distance students, and students have access to a wide range of resources.

Graduating students are welcome to attend their graduation ceremony in Sydney. For students who cannot attend, degrees are conferred at the ceremony in absentia. Degrees and transcripts are sent to students by registered mail.
