English Literature - Distance Programs
Department of English at Macquarie University offers the following programs via distance mode:
- Master of Arts (specialising in Creative Writing) ![]()
The Creative Writing program enables creative writers to complete a substantial piece of work (or collection) in the context of more theoretical studies and interactive workshop seminars. It offers students the opportunity to become part of a community of writers.
- Master of Arts (specialising in Children's Literature) ![]()
The Children's Literature program considers current principles and practices in analysing children’s literature from the perspective of literary and cultural studies theory and the social and historical contexts of children’s literature.

Program Descriptions
These Master of Arts courses are open to those who have completed a recognised bachelor degree who are looking to further their understanding in a particular discipline. In many areas applicants can begin with a postgraduate certificate or postgraduate diploma, and work their way up to a master degree.
Resources and Support for Distance Students
There is a high level of support for distance students. Academic staff are available by email, fax, and telephone.
The Department’s Student Services staff are devoted to dealing with administrative and practical need of distance students, and students have access to a wide range of resources.
Graduating students are welcome to attend their graduation ceremony in Sydney. For students who cannot attend, degrees are conferred at the ceremony in absentia. Degrees and transcripts are sent to students by registered mail.
