Study Abroad Fees

Please note the following Macquarie University Study Abroad tuition fees for the 2010 Academic Calendar are:

One semester: AUD$9,116
Two semesters: AUD$18,232

The fee quoted includes all tuition and compulsory administrative fees. The fee does not include accommodation, books and other costs. These fees are up to AUD$2000 less per semester than some of Sydney's other major universities. Macquarie University is committed to providing the best value for money study abroad program in the country.

The International Tuition Fee Refund Policy will apply to most refunds. If you are applying to Macquarie University through a program, please contact the program administrators for refund policy information.

The Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is a compulsory coverage introduced by the Australia Government to all Study Abroad and Exchange students, the only exceptions being those students from Norway and Sweden. Please click here for more information about the OSHC. Confirmation of Enrollment (CoE) and subsequent visas cannot be issued without the OSHC having been paid in advance to Macquarie University - Macquarie International.

Worldcare ASSIST is Macquarie University's chosen provider of Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). There are two levels of cover a student can choose: silver and gold. The prices below are based on the silver cover fees for 2010.

  • One semester - AUD$195.00
  • Two semesters - AUD$390.00

To make your OSHC payment, go to the Macquarie University online fee paying service at https://onlinepayments.mq.edu.au. Once you are connected to the service, select "Pay HECS or Other fees" and enter the amount. Once you have completed the transaction, email a copy of your confirmation of payment to your education abroad advisor. Do not pay your OSHC directly to Worldcare Assist.

Specific details on the Worldcare policies are available from the Worldcare webpage at http://www.oshcworldcare.com.au/. Once again, be sure to pay your fees to Macquarie University, not directly over the Worldcare site.

Paying Fees

Study Abroad students are required to pay their study abroad fees (which includes tuition) in advance. This, along with your health cover payment, is required before you are issued with a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) that allows you to get your student visa.

You can make your payment over the internet (we prefer this method) or by cheque.

Download an infosheet on how to pay your fees here (PDF ~ 25kb).

Study Abroad students who have enrolled at Macquarie University through one of Macquarie University's program providers or partner institutions may have "all inclusive" packages, and do not need to pay any further tuition to Macquarie University. If you are unsure, please contact edabroad@mq.edu.au.

If you are an exchange student from one of Macquarie University's designated exchange partners you do not need to worry about paying any tuition to Macquarie University, as you will pay your standard fees at your home institution.

Individual subjects/units/ courses will be approved in accordance with selection criteria and previous studies. Transcripts of previous results with an explanation of grades are therefore critical documents that must be included with the application.

6. Accommodation and Airport Reception

Macquarie University is the only university in Sydney that will guarantee your accommodation. We offer a range of accommodation, including temporary housing, permanent on- and off-campus accommodation, and advice on non-University off-campus housing.

As a study abroad or exchange student you are entitled to an Airport Pick-up, which you will need to register for before you arrive in Australia (see Accommodation and Airport reception for more information).

A representative of Macquarie University will greet you at the arrival gates. There are two arrival gates 'AB' and 'CD', and there is a Meeting Point located halfway between the two.

Your Macquarie representative will be waiting there for you with a Macquarie University sign. After 30 minutes if you cannot find the "pick up person" do not panic, call either 9850 7965 (9am - 5pm Mon-Fri) or 0419 014 745 or 0414 443 754 (other than office hours) and Macquarie International will advise you what to do next.

Detailed information about Macquarie accommodation and airport pickup service is available here (navigation tip: select your topic of interest from the menu in the left hand margin).
