English Language Requirements
All international students at Macquarie are required to provide evidence of proficiency in English. There are three ways that you can fulfil the English requirements for admission to Macquarie University.**Please note: for all programs in Education , Translating and Interpreting, Advanced Medicine, Clinical Audiology, English Literature, higher English language requirements apply.
1. Complete an approved language test as follows:

AND have at least one assessable qualification from one of the countries listed
AND the language in which you undertook the qualification was English.
or if you were not born in:
American Samoa, Australia, Canada, Fiji, Ireland, Kenya, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Africa, United Kingdom (including Northern Ireland), United States of America or Zambia
BUT you have completed senior secondary study or at least one year of full-time university study in one of these countries in the last 2 years
AND the language in which you undertook this qualification was English.
Being born in Australia or one of the countries listed does not automatically pass you for English proficiency. You must also have at least one assessable qualification from one of the countries listed.
*This option does NOT fulfil the English language requirements for postgraduate programs in Translating and Interpreting, postgraduate programs in Education or Clinical Audiology, Advanced Surgery or English Literature.
The following tests and programs are also accepted (except for postgraduate programs in Translating and Interpreting, postgraduate programs in Education, Clinical Audiology, Advanced Surgery or English Literature):

Students are required to submit test scores directly to Macquarie International as soon as they are available. An offer of admission may be made pending the receipt of an English test result if all other entry criteria are satisfied.
Please Note: According to Australian visa requirements IELTS is now the only English Language proficiency test accepted by Australian Immigration Officials in certain assessment levels. Even with an offer from a university, an IELTS test result which meets the visa requirements may need to be shown before a student visa is issued.

English language requirements for programs in Education and Translating and Interpreting
Students who would like to apply for any program in Education or Translating and Interpreting need to achieve higher English language requirements as outlined below.
