Maternity Services
Am I covered for Maternity services under the OSHC Worldcare plan?
Where you have a student visa, which is valid for more than 3 months, there is cover under the OSHC Worldcare policy for Maternity Services.
The cover is as per the normal benefits under your policy for all other medical services. Cover is as follows:
- Out of hospital medical services for doctors, pathology and x-rays at the rate of 85% of the Medicare Benefits Schedule Fee
- In hospital medical services for doctors, pathology and x-rays at the rate of 100% of the Medicare Benefits Schedule Fee
- Hospital inpatient shared ward accommodation (private or public hospital), hospital day care services or accident and emergency and outpatient services at the rate of 100% of the Schedule fee for Non Australian residents as declared for public hospitals by the respective State or Territory Health Authorities
- Prescription medicines but excluding the standard co-payment required under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, up to a maximum benefit of $50 per prescribed item, per calendar year of $150 per single cover and $300 per Duo or Family cover
- Ambulance services at the rate of 100% of the charge for transport by an ambulance provided by or under an arrangement with an approved ambulance service when medically necessary for admission to hospital or for emergency treatment.
Am I covered if I am pregnant when I arrive in Australia?
If your student visa is for a period of time more than 3 months, the costs of your medical treatment for maternity services are covered.
Is my baby covered if I am on a single policy?
No – you must have a family policy for your child or other dependants to be covered. You can purchase your family policy before your baby is born and then activate it upon the birth of your child. You can then obtain a refund for the remaining portion of your single policy.
