Scholarships for Research Students
Macquarie University assesses applicants for scholarship based on academic merit usually at Australian First class or Second class honours or equivalent research qualifications/experience. This includes reviewing academic records, peer reviewed activity, relevant work or professional experience. The Higher Degree Research Committee has approved guidelines to assist in the rating of scholarship applications. All available scholarships will be advertised under the scholarships section of Higher Degree Research Office (HDRO) website www.research.mq.edu.au/students/scholarships. The following is a summary of the major scholarships available to international HDR candidates.
Macquarie University Research Excellence Scholarship (MQRES)
MQRES scholarships are made available to fund postgraduate PhD students of exceptional research promise as they undertake their postgraduate research in the University's identified concentrations of research excellence. International applicants will receive tuition funding for the tenure of their award (up to three and a half years).
Cotutelle MQRES
Macquarie University encourages cotutelle/joint PhD enrolment with other research active international universities. Higher degree research candidates enrolled in a PhD are able to enrol both at Macquarie and another international university and obtain a degree from each institution while under a joint enrolment (co-tutelle) agreement. Subject to meeting the award criteria for MQRES, a cotutelle student may be awarded Cotutelle MQRES, which includes additional travel funds between the two cities where the two universities are located.
Government Scholarships
The Australian Government’s Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (E-IPRS) provides financial support for international students for up to 3 years to undertake a postgraduate qualification at PhD level by research in any field of study in Australia. The main objectives of the E-IPRS program are to attract top quality international postgraduate students to areas of research strength in Australian higher education providers and to support Australia's research effort.
