Contacting the HDR Marketing and Development Team
The Macquarie International Higher Degree Research Marketing & Development team (MI HDR) is responsible for:
• enhancing Macquarie University’s relationship with existing and new international partner institutions,
• expanding cotutelle and joint PhD enrolment,
• improving the quality of international HDR enrolment by promoting our research excellence internationally.
The team consists of the following staff:
Professor Ernest Jordan
As Director, International Research Programs, Professor Jordan's main responsibilities are:• the direct recruitment of international research candidates to all Faculties of the University,
• the development of strategic partnerships with international research intensive universities for cotutelle/joint degree enrolment,
• the facilitation of international experiences for all Macquarie research candidates,
• the development of the university's outreach partnerships in developing economies, particularly for the professional development of academic staff in developing universities.
As a member of Higher Degrees Research Committee, Professor Jordan reports all strategic initiatives and agreements to this committee for its consideration.

Appointed on secondment to Macquarie International since 2007, Ernie is the Director for International Research Programs. He is responsible for international agreements with universities for shared research student programs and for recruiting international research students to help achieve the University’s strategic goals.
Ernie Jordan joined the international office of the university after 12 years at the Macquarie Graduate School of Management where he was professor of management specialising in IT management and previously its Director of HDR. He taught in the areas of IT governance, IT management, statistics and operations research. His broad area of research is the strategic application of information technology with an emphasis on electronic business. He has supervised many research students.
Over the last 10 years, he has researched areas of IT risks, both strategic and operational. This research has been expanded to include the portfolio of risks that organisations face in managing IT, in particular the challenge of making sense of the technological, strategic and operational risks to board members to ensure the appropriate governance of the organisation’s IT.
Currently he has research students working actively in IT risk, governance and strategy with a variety of business partners. His book, “Beating IT risks”, was published by Wiley early in 2005 and has been translated into Finnish and Chinese.
Before joining Macquarie University, Ernie spent 8 years at the City University of Hong Kong. Prior to that his career has included some 10 years in the IT industry and several academic appointments.

Ms Kristin Fan
Ms Fan is Manager – International Research Relations. She works closely with Professor Jordan in all international research relationships between Macquarie researchers and oversees partners, including higher degree research programs, joint supervision agreements, joint research funding proposals, and other initiatives related to research candidates and research objectives.Specifically, Kristin facilitates the negotiation of cotutelle/joint PhD agreements and plays a key role in developing strategic research partners in the Asia-Pacific region.

Prior to joining Macquarie University, Kristin worked in both corporate and higher education sectors in China and Australia. She was an Associate Lecturer in English at Beijing Medical University (now College of Medicine, Peking University), and Project Officer at the (British) National Power’s branch office in Beijing. After completing her MBA at the Australian National University in 1999, she worked as a Conference Manager at a Sydney-based business-to-business media company till the end of 2002.
Kristin has been working at Macquarie University since early 2003. She has worked in various professional roles at both departmental and central university offices, including Academic Program Administrator at Department of Business and Commencement Officer at the Higher Degree Research Office.
From July 2008 to May 2010, Kristin was Coordinator, Research Relations at Macquarie International’s HDR Marketing and Development Unit. Her experiences in business development and marketing as well as knowledge of teaching and student administration in Australian and overseas universities enabled her to effectively facilitate Macquarie University's research relations with overseas universities.

Administrative Assistant – Ms Rania Ali and Ms Flora Cheung
The Administrative Assistant – International HDR provides vital administrative support to the unit including answering general enquiries, tracking and filing of cotutelle/joint PhD agreements and other research-related agreements with Macquarie's international research partners.
Ms Rania Ali and Ms Flora Cheung joined the MI HDR Team in July 2010 on part-time, job share basis. Both Flora and Rania have held administrative positions in government and tertiary education organisations in Australian and overseas. Together they speak 4 other languages besides English - Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin and German.
