Students are permitted to change their programs of study (add and/or withdraw units) at the commencement of semester. Usually within the first two weeks changes are possible but this needs to be checked with the partner institutions.

The student’s grade of achievement in a module is based on an assessment of work in the module and/or performance at examinations.
The following range of scaled marks applies to these grades as referred to below:

Grade HD and D denotes work of superior quality. This may be demonstrated in areas such as criticism, logical argument, and interpretation of materials or use of methodology. This grade may also be awarded to recognise particular originality or creativity in student performance.
Grade Cr denotes work of predominantly good quality, demonstrating a sound grasp of content together with efficient organisation, selectivity and use of techniques.
Grade P denotes a clear pass and satisfactory achievement of module objectives.
Grade F indicates that the student has failed to complete the module satisfactorily.
The student's grade of achievement in a unit is based on an assessment of all relevant work in the unit including performance at examinations.
Senate has resolved that students with a query or difficulty about final results in a unit of study may discuss the matter with their teachers in, or the lecturer in charge of, that unit and, in the event of continuing difficulty, with the Head of Department or with the Dean of Division.
The Grade Point Average (GPA) of a student is a calculation, which reflects the overall grades of a student. It is based on units completed at Macquarie University and does not take into account credit points granted for credit for previous studies.
The GPA is printed on all academic records. It is used in academic advising in the following areas: for unit prerequisites, for admission to Bachelor honours programs, for transfer from one degree program to another and for admission to restricted areas of study.
The grade point average (GPA) for grades obtained from 2001 is calculated as follows:

The grade point average of an applicant of a student who has been enrolled in any combined or double degree program will be calculated on the basis of the entire program (including failed units).
