Country of Birth: Netherlands
Study Program: Master of Arts in International Communication with Master of International Relations

Why did you choose Macquarie?

To me it did not make much sense to study international relations and intercultural communication back home, with just Dutch students and professors around.

I have learnt so much just from listening and talking to students with different backgrounds to mine. It was definitely not only a learning experience out of theory books, but a very hands-on approach to gaining knowledge. I think this can be seen as one of the unique selling points of Macquarie University .

Tell us about your time in Australia.

From the beginning it was hard to imagine not (being) able to have a great time down here. A gorgeous city, with of course the amazing Opera House and Harbour Bridge, incredible beaches, a vibrant nightlife, lovely weather, and friendly people from all over the world, who seem to have the same motto of 'no worries mate, take it easy'!

During my time in Australia I (have) had the opportunity to see quite a bit of this massive piece of land. When I was coming back from Perth I could experience how big the country actually is. I took the Indian Pacific back to Sydney , which was a train journey of 72 hours - I could have crossed my own country 36 times during that trip!
