Dual Degree Opportunities

The dual degree programs have been designed for Macquarie students doing an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at Macquarie in the area of Business or International Communications. The program is open to students who wish to spend one semester or one year overseas and complete a postgraduate degree at a foreign university. At the end of the combined study period, students will receive two degrees: one from Macquarie and one from the PartnerUniversity.

Macquarie has developed 12 dual degree agreements with 5 universities in 3 countries: France, Denmark and Mexico.

Cost of Enrolment at Macquarie

Each student participating in a dual degree international program will be enrolled at MacquarieUniversity. Tuitions fees under these programs are not paid to the host institution but to MacquarieUniversity, with the exception of Aarhus School of Business where the student pays fees to the university directly.

Enrolment at Macquarie for a dual degree program attracts the same rate of tuition as being enrolled in a normal semester at Macquarie. For example, if you are enrolled in an undergraduate degree, the cost while overseas will be equivalent to 4 undergraduate units (12cp). If you are enrolled in a postgraduate degree, the cost while overseas will be  equivalent to 4 postgraduate units (16cp).

Commonwealth Supported Students are able to defer their payments as normal, or receive a discount for paying up front.

Full fee paying students must pay their full tuition fee by the deadline specified on their e-student account.

Eligibility

Students must comply with the eligibility criteria outlined in the Outbound Mobility Exchange Policy.

Minimum eligibility criteria include: a GPA of 2.0; undergraduate students must complete at least 48cp at Macquarie (excluding SIBT, credit for previous study and non-award study) and postgraduate students must complete at least 16cp at Macquarie; provision of one academic reference as part of the application process.

Students that participate in a dual degree program will not receive any transfer of credits to the Macquarie degree for the program completed overseas.  Students will then need to come back to Macquarie to finish the degree. The reason for this is that the credit transfer is granted at the partner university where only part of the program will be completed.

Students that have qualified for the Macquarie degree are not allowed to participate in the program.

How does the Student Exchange Committee assess applications?

The MQ Student Exchange Committee is responsible for assessing participants' eligibility for an intensive program.

The Committee will consider the following aspects of the students' applications:

  • Academic Record: GPA, field of study, year of study, if student will complete, subjects studied etc.
  • References: With focus being on the academic reference
  • Personal statement: Content and style of the personal statement
  • Other aspects of the application: Does the student have another opportunity to participate on an intensive program? Is there a more appropriate program?

How to Apply

Students must apply online at:

https://www.international.mq.edu.au/goingabroad/process/how_to_apply

When completing the application, please note the following:

  • Students who are intending to apply for only one program, please select only that program on the online application form
  • Students are required to attach a statement as to why they want to undertake that particular program. This can either be typed into the application or you can attach a word document
  • Students must provide references – one of which must be an academic from Macquarie University. Students should contact their referee prior to applying for the program. In the application form students are only given the opportunity of providing the email address of the referee and the system will automatically contact your referee for the reference. For this reason it is critical to get permission from your referee to write on your behalf before submitting your application

Eligibility: All students are required to read the Outbound Student Exchange Policy. This document contains important information regarding overseas study and must be read carefully.

Macquarie Abroad will contact students within two weeks of the closing date for applications for the nominated program. We please ask that students refrain from contacting us on the status of your application before this time.
