Once students have completed their experiences abroad, there are many ways to stay involved and to share both their knowledge and enthusiasm for study overseas.
ClubeX is made up of returned exchange students that organise and participate in social and cultural events throughout the semester, which are held for incoming study abroad and exchange students. It is a great way to mingle with international students from around the world and to showcase the many social events in the Sydney region.
Events include winery tours, lawn bowls, pub crawls, trips to the Blue Mountains, and other social activities. Students that have returned from their international experiences and are enthusiastic to help show someone else what a great city and country we live in are encouraged to get involved. Meet a Mate @ Mac is an extension of the Student Exchange Club. This program has been designed to help ease the anxieties of incoming study abroad and exchange students by linking them up with a local Macquarie student before they depart for Australia.
The idea is that a local student becomes an incoming student's first ‘mate’ in Australia by offering them advice via email before they arrive and by helping them ease into the Australian lifestyle in the first few weeks.
Being someone's ‘mate’ can be a rewarding experience and does not necessarily mandate a great amount of time as the number of meetings are solely at the discretion of the students themselves. A Meet a Mate @ Mac event is usually organised to kick off the semester and all participants are invited to attend.
If you are interested in being a ‘Mate’, please email Stephanie Johnston @ stephanie.johnston@io.mq.edu.au with the subject line ‘Meet a Mate at Mac’.
The Global Leadership Program (GLP) has
been developed to allow students to enhance their Macquarie
degree and develop their potential to become a global leader.
This program is very attractive to students who are
considering study overseas as this is a major component of the
program.
The GLP is offered to domestic and international onshore students at Macquarie fee-free, and is available to students from any discipline of study. For more information, please visit https://www.international.mq.edu.au/GLP/index.aspx
