GL C01 :: Cross Cultural Understanding [Core Event] Professionals in any field need cross-cultural skills to work in a global environment. This colloquium will also look at the relevance of cross-cultural understanding to international careers and globalisation.
GL C02 :: Leadership [Core Event] Leadership is said to be one of the most studied and least understood topics in the social sciences. This participative colloquium explores different kinds of leadership, and their applicability to different people, cultures, and contexts.
GL C03 :: Beyond Borders: the responsibilities of a global citizen [Core Event] What are our responsibilities in a globalised world? This colloquium will provide an understanding of the issues associated with being a citizen of a global community. Gain an awareness of the implied social responsibilities of global citizenship.
GL E01 :: Protecting Australians Abroad: An International Law Perspective Students will be equipped with the tools to appreciate the legal dimensions to international disputes and what questions need to be resolved when confronted with an international law issue. GL E02 :: Global Governance: institutions, issues, insights If we are one world, one set of global issues; then the management of these issues demands some level of global governance. Consider this issue as well as the effectiveness of international institutions such as the United Nations.
GL E03 :: Global Gender Recognising the part that gender plays in people’s ordinary lives as well as in the extraordinary circumstance of war is difficult. In this colloquium we will discuss some practical strategies for addressing the problem of gendered violence.
GL E04 :: International Humanitarian Law With an emphasis on the United Nations system, examine the issues of the intervention facing international humanitarian and human rights law and gain an understanding that human rights law involves.
GL E05 :: One World, Many Beliefs Different religions have different perspectives on global issues. Religion can be both the fuel for international conflicts and a facilitator of hope and peace. This colloquium features a panel of clergy from different religions.
GL E06 :: Effective writing: respecting & reshaping professional cultures Changing social demands in professional disciplines are creatively reshaping language and discourse requirements. Leaders in their field use language that reflects their awareness of the intercultural nature of professional communication.
GL E07 :: Getting the Message Across: the fundamentals of effective public speaking Learn and practice the fundamentals involved in making a successful presentation in a supportive small-group environment. GL E08 :: Innovation & Entrepreneurship Young people in a globalised knowledge society will inherently operate in a more enterprising and innovative capacity. Look at definitions of entrepreneurship and innovation and how these relate to you.
GL E09 :: Group Dynamics Understanding group dynamics can assist you in many professional and personal situations. This colloquium explores different aspects of working in, and in particular, leading a group.
GL E10 :: The 3 Ps of Politics: philosophy, process and practice Any study of global leadership must begin with a thorough understanding of global politics. Though global politics are set in an international political system, we need to understand the nature of any political system.
GL E11 :: Service Leadership Today’s complex organisations calls for a model in which the leader adopts a role subordinated to championing the needs of employees and customers – The Service Leader.
GL E12 :: Negotiating in cross-cultural environments This colloquia uses a simulation (hypothetical discussion and role play) to explore the interrelationships between negotiation, leadership and culture and to improve personal skills in cross-cultural negotiation settings.

GL E14 :: A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words: Presenting Your Message Using Contemporary Graphics Using a non-technical approach, this colloquium investigates the power and pitfalls of using modern statistical graphics as an effective communication medium about global problems such as sustainability, war and peace, health and more.
GL E15 :: Terrorism & Counter-Terrorism This colloquium is aimed at developing an awareness of terrorism and counter-terrorism and an appreciation of the challenges of leadership when dealing with terrorism. Run by the Centre for Policing, Intelligence & Counter-Terrorism.
GL E16 :: International Aid This colloquium will assist students to think about why international aid is not simply a question of economics, but an issue that strongly revolves around culture and politics.
GL E17 :: Understanding International Political Economy This colloquia explains power relations internationally and in individual societies by examining the expansion of capitalism from the Seventeenth Century.
GL E19 :: World Music and Global Politics The colloquium will provide an overview of the manner in which western musicians and composers have engaged with non western music and the politics of this creative engagement.
