Global green campaign by Macquarie graduate

Macquarie alumni Carmen Boscolo is taking her environmental message global.

“I believe environmental issues are not part of a niche sector anymore, most people are beginning to realise the importance of environmental issues,” says Carmen.

Graduating with a Master of Environmental Management, Carmen has returned to Italy and is an environmental consultant in the public sector and a part time lecturer.

“Any professional achievement is not just personal achievement but it benefits the whole community, and that's great. I have a lot of job satisfaction.”

Carmen has recently created several online blogs, one in English, and the others in Italian about the environment.

“There are many environmental blogs out there already, but I wanted to create my own perspective on the environment and sustainability and to give tools for consulting as well as everyday life. I'm also using my blog to start a car pooling campaign in my region.”

Carmen Boscolo hopes Macquarie students get involved in her online environmental campaigns

Another project Carmen is working on is ‘Sustainable Universities’. “I believe universities have a great potential to actively reduce their environmental footprint. At the end of the day, universities are communities of people and act just as any other company. They do have impacts on the environment and cannot just teach sustainability in their curricula.”

Carmen chose to study in Australia because, “Australia offers one of the best education system and is very competitive in terms of value for money for people wanting to study in an English-speaking country.”

“Macquarie University came out of my research for Environmental Master degrees as the best option. The Graduate School of the Environment is one of the best and most independent environmental schools in Australia and has got a high reputation.”

Carmen is hoping that Macquarie students and alumni will join her ‘Sustainable Universities’ campaign. “I think every campus should adopt a sustainability plan and get students involved. I've posted on this issue on my blog and have invited anyone interested in the matter to contact me. It would be great to have colleagues from Macquarie to join in!”
