“I’ve had nothing but fun since I have arrived in Australia,” says Indonesian student Khrisnaresa (Khrisna) Adytia.
Khrisna is one of two new students who received a Peace Scholarship this semester at Macquarie.
The Peace Scholarship Program aims to provide international education opportunities, improve cross-cultural understanding to lead to an enduring global peace.
Studying psychology at the University of Indonesia, Khrisna has chosen to study media at Macquarie.
“Learning creative writing will help me to express my combined experience as a reporter, social worker and student,” says Khrisna.
Khrisna is interested in both psychology and journalism and aspires to be an owner of a mass media company that provides information for people in order to broaden their knowledge.
He hopes that by providing information to the community through this company, combined with his knowledge of psychology, it will effectively build a good society.
“I would like to create a cultural magazine, so people can easily learn about different cultures,” says Khrisna.
He believes that the opportunity to study abroad in Australia will lead to a better understanding of global inter-relationships and multiculturalism.
“Studying abroad will give me a different perspective,” says Khrisna.

Khrisnaresa Adytia has really enjoyed his time at Macquarie University
“One of the biggest differences between here and home is how multicultural Sydney is. There are people here from everywhere! I have made friends with many people from different backgrounds, like Vietnam and Chile.”
“Speaking English has been hard work, but it is very important to improve,” believes Khrisna.
Khrisna has been living with a host family in the local area, "they are really nice. They made me feel at home as soon as I arrived."
Peace Scholarships are awarded to students who show commitment to global peace and understanding through community and academic achievements.
Up to five Peace Scholarships are offered per year at Macquarie University. For further information visit the IDP Education website or email Ilaria Teuffer.
