ERIC is here to help you

The EFS Resource and Information Centre, ERIC, is a drop-in centre for students who are taking units in the Division of Economic and Financial Studies.

ERIC is run by experienced students who act as Peer Advisers to give fellow students friendly, non-judgemental and confidential assistance.

Peer Advisors can help students read and understand the University Handbook and Timetable, share information about other services available at Macquarie and answer general enquires.

As well, ERIC runs both the Peer Assisted Learning program and Conversation Groups.

The Peer Assisted Learning program, (PAL), is unit specific workshops led by trained students who have excelled in those particular units.  The weekly workshops are free and are open to all enrolled students.

Conversation Groups are a great way for students to meet new people and improve their English

The learning environment that the PAL student leaders create in workshops ensures that it’s ok to ask questions. Workshops are a place where students can make mistakes, learn from those mistakes, share their thoughts, and improve communication skills.

Conversation Groups are a fun and informal way for students to improve their English and make new friends.

Run by students, everyone is encouraged to talk about a wide range of topics. These can vary from experiences on campus to getting a job, Australian colloquialisms and slang, Hollywood gossip and games.

“This is what I appreciate from Conversation Groups: meeting new friends, interesting discussion topics, improving my English, getting to know about life in Australia and the really nice group leaders,” says Chinese Bachelor of Commerce - Accounting student Yuanya (Paul) Gao.

Conversation Groups are free and open to any Macquarie University, NCELTR or SIBT student on campus.

For more information about any of the services run by ERIC visit the website or meet with a student Peer Advisor in room 106, building E4B.
