Short Term Exchange Programs How to apply

How to apply

There are three key categories of short term exchange programs at Macquarie University.

Please proceed under one of the categories below - if you are unsure about which category your exchange fits into, contact us before applying.

MI-Administered Short Term Programs

    • These are the programs listed on the Programs Available page. These programs will change from time to time, so keep an eye on the website for updates, or contact us for further information.
Students participating in this category must complete an application for "Short Term Exchange".

Please note: students accepted into the Short Term Exchange Programs will have a travel grant processed automatically for them - there is no need to complete a separate application for an "International Travel Grant".

Department-Led Short Term Programs

  • Sometimes, as in the case of the Fiji Marine Biology program and the Berlin Advanced Beginners German program, departments lead short term exchange programs in conjunction with Macquarie International. These specific programs therefore overlap with the MI-Administered category, and students apply under the "Short Term Exchange" category. There is no need for these students to apply for a separate travel grant.

  • If, however, a department-led program is not administered jointly by Macquarie International (for example, the residential programs from the French department), students are not required to complete an application for "Short Term Exchange". Students in this category may be required to complete an online application for an International Travel Grant - they should receive guidance on this process from the relevant department coordinator.

Independent Short Term Programs

  • Students may find a short term exchange program at a university that is not a partner of Macquarie University, or is not included in the MI-Administered list.
These students may be eligible for an International Travel Grant, and should apply under this category. These students are not required to complete an application for "Short Term Exchange".

Preparing Your Application

When completing the application, please note the following:

Within the application form, students must provide the email address of their referees - with these addresses, the system will contact your referee via automated email. For this reason it is critical to get permission from your referee to write on your behalf before submitting your application. If your referee has any problems with the process, they can contact us.

Next Steps

Macquarie Abroad will contact students within two weeks of the closing date for applications. We ask that students refrain from contacting us on the status of applications before this time.
