1. Macquarie University English Language Centre

Macquarie University’s on campus English Centre, Macquarie University English Language Centre (CME), provides a range of academic and general English courses, including discipline specific Direct Entry English programs, to help prospective students develop the language and study skills they need to succeed in their University studies. These courses are recognised by Macquarie University as official English entry programs, so students who successfully complete one of these courses do not need to sit for the IELTS test.

2. Sydney Institute of Business and Technology (SIBT)

Students who need to complete foundation courses or preliminary programs prior to starting Macquarie University programs can undertake these studies with the Sydney Institute of Business and Technology (SIBT). Located on the Macquarie University campus (North Ryde) and the Macquarie City campus (Sydney CBD), SIBT is a private tertiary college operating under contract with the University and using its facilities and staff.

SIBT at Macquarie University is located in Building E3A, Level 2.

Advantages of admission through SIBT include:

  • Study on the Macquarie University campus with access to many facilities
  • Eligibility to proceed to the second year of a university program*
  • The benefits of a three semester (12 month) or two semester (seven month) ‘fast track’ system
  • Small lecture and tutorial groups
  • Special English and Mathematics support
  • Fully approved courses which are recognised by Macquarie University and the NSW Department of Education and Training
  • Academic Requirements

    SIBT provides admission to the University through its Certificate and Diploma programs in the following areas:

    • Commerce/Business Administration
    • Administration
    • Computer Science
    • Mass Communications Applicants will normally have completed secondary Year 12 or equivalent. Students with lesser qualifications must first undertake one of the relevant certificate programs. International students may present equivalent qualifications and satisfy the English Language entry requirements.

    SIBT also offers a preliminary qualifying program, and a Graduate Certificate of Business for students who may not have the necessary background for direct admission to several Masters degrees in Business/Commerce

    *For students interested in progressing to the Bachelor of Commerce - Actuarial Studies, additional first year units need to be completed before second year can commence. Students are advised to consult an SIBT Adviser for further information.

  • Dates

    SIBT works on a trimester system with semesters commencing in February, June and October.

3. Macquarie University Foundation Program

Macquarie City Campus and Macquarie University have collaborated to create the Macquarie University Foundation Program (MQFP). While completing your MQFP, you will study at Macquarie City Campus and depending on the undergraduate program you wish to study, you can continue your bachelor degree at the North Ryde or city campus. You will also participate in an orientation and various social and support programs to make you feel comfortable and familiarise yourself with the campus.
 
Once you successfully complete your MQFP, you have two distinct advantages:

  • a university place waiting for you at either the Macquarie University North Ryde or city campus
  • access to high-quality teaching, which will prepare you well for your Macquarie University undergraduate degree.
Dates

The program is run on a three semester system, dates commencing in February, June and October. Find out the next available commencement date.

Applications

There is no application fee to apply, applicants can submit their application by email, fax, post or apply online.

4. Other pathways

Foundation programs provided by most Australian universities are accepted, as well as other foundation and preparation programs designed for entry to Australian universities.

Macquarie University also accepts study at an approved Australian ELICOS college to fulfill the English language requirements for admission.
