International Agreements

The University develops and enhances opportunities for engagement with international institutions and organisations in order to achieve its strategic goals. The University’s Learning and Teaching Plan, Research Strategy and Internationalisation Strategy seek to enhance and ensure the quality of educational activities and strategic partnerships.

Academic cooperation and collaboration is a fundamental foundation of teaching and research excellence. This page provides information for Macquarie University staff to establish or renew international agreements for collaboration with institutions and organisations overseas.

Types of International Agreements


 Agreement Type
 Definition
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
To facilitate academic, cultural and educational activities between two institutions. This agreement provides a framework for future co-operation.
Student Exchange Agreement
To enable Macquarie University students to study at an overseas partner institution for one or two semesters. This is a reciprocal arrangement and also enables students from the overseas partner institution to come to Macquarie University to study for one or two semesters.
Transnational Agreement
To allow students to undertake study in a Macquarie University program, in an overseas partner institution, taught by Macquarie University staff or their representatives.
